Le droit des Anglais à rester Anglais et des Européens  à rester Européens !Charlie Downes (@cfdownes_)Nobody is arguing that the English are an “Aryan master race.” Rees-Mogg is deliberately attacking a position almost nobody holds.

Belonging to a nation is a matter of ancestry and inheritance. It is impossible to “become English,” regardless of whether you subscribe to “our values,” because Englishness is an inherited ethnic identity.

Just because it comes from multiple sources – Britons, Angles, Saxons, Danes, Normans – does not mean that it does not exist, nor does it mean that anyone from anywhere can simply put it on like a costume.

That is not Nazism; it is a natural, moral, and healthy view that everyone, in all times and places – except White people in the 21st century – has held.

Why must we accept that this view is now beyond the pale? Why, meanwhile, is every other group encouraged to celebrate its identity and organise around its interests? Why can’t we do the same?

These are the questions we are asking. If  @Jacob_Rees_Mogg‘s response is to caricature us as Nazis and call our people mongrels, that’s up to him. But he shouldn’t be surprised if history remembers him as a coward and a traitor.
